Project:

Property Staff Housing

April 21, 2010:

Wow!  Hundreds of volunteer hours have been donated over the past 10 weeks, and Ken McRae has kept everything coordinated.  The interior is painted, floors are laid, doors are hung, trim has been installed, and cabinets have been built and installed.  And that's just the beginning of what was accomplished!  Many thanks to Laura-Lee Penson and the gang from First Baptist for their painting expertise; John Reimer & Al Reimer for installing tile; John, Lutz Klaar and Heinz Kwiatkowski for hanging doors and trim; Cliff Stauffer and his eager band of 'apprentices' for building the cabinets; and Ben Waechter for his exterior siding help.  Camp has never seen a project move like this.  We received over $28,000 in March as a result of 2 generous donors who promised to match gifts from the NLBC Board and Property Staff.  The challenge was taken up by 15 board and staff members, and work continued.

Work remaining to be done includes some interior finishing (such as filling holes and paint touch up on trim) and a thorough DEEP CLEAN inside the house to prepare it for the Wilsons, as well as exterior work (paint, landscaping, and the garage floor).  Even though we are almost done inside, there is lots to do OUTSIDE, and volunteers are still needed.  Please contact Paul Bailey at 250-612-4673 if you or your small group are able to help.

February 9, 2010:

Progress has been excellent during the last few weeks.  The drywall has been hung and we are ready for the mud to fly!  Many thanks to Jake Eberle and his crew from A Cut Above Drywall Services for their excellent workmanship and their hours of volunteer help.  Once again, Richard Kraska has donated his skill to tape & mud the drywall and texture the ceilings throughout the house.  Volunteer painters are set to do the walls as soon as everything has been sanded, and then we will install the flooring (tile and laminate).  We have only 70 days to complete the interior of the house so that the Wilson family can move in prior to May 1, 2010.  Please pray that this project will continue to move towards completion without pause.

If you are able to make a cash donation or if you can contribute time and skill, please call Paul Bailey at 250-612-4673.  Only $58,000 more is required!

December, 2009:

The arrival of Steve & Heather Wilson and their family at NLBC marks a new era in the life of Ness Lake Bible Camp. For the first time in 10 years, we will have housing for the Camp Director to live on site year-round.  This will enable Steve to provide direct leadership and support for our Property Staff on a daily basis.  NLBC has never been busier - last year we hosted 114 'off-season' Guest Groups!

For now, the Wilson family are living in a rental house in PG and Steve is commuting to work.  We are hoping to have the new house ready for occupancy May 1, 2010 so that Steve & Heather can move in prior to the summer.  A quick build is also important so that we can limit the amount of money camp spends on rent.

Progress on the house has been excellent, thanks to the hard work of Ken McRae (Project Superintendent) and many, many hardworking volunteers.  Donations to date total $114,000, and we have been blessed with thousands of dollars worth of gifts in kind (concrete, machinery. lumber, windows, doors, insulation, labour and more!).  Many thanks to All Weather Windows, Canfor, Carrier Lumber, Comfort Insulation, Dunkley Lumber, Lynden Door, NW Wood Preservers, West Fraser Fibre, and others for their significant donations!  As of January 18, we are ready for drywall.  Please pray that progress will continue at a rapid pace, and that we will not be held up by a lack of funds.

The estimated cost of the project is $200,000.  We need $86,000 to complete the job.  NLBC operates under a ‘no debt’ policy.  This means that work stops periodically as we wait for God’s provision in the form of volunteers, cash gifts, or gifts in kind.  Historically, projects at camp take 2-3 years to complete. It is our desire to keep working without pause on this important project to ensure the house is ready prior to the end of April, 2010. If you are able to help with this important project in any way, please contact us.  Please mail your gift to:
